Character building

It was a stormy day. The lightning was horrendous. There was a fight on God of Wars Bay between Grimbeard the Ghastly and Baggybum the Birdbrain. Baggybum lashed out with his heavy, threatening sword at Grimbeard’s grey face…… His eye was the only thing he lost that day.

As I stumbled into the woods, I saw a mysterious cave. I started to quiver when the mossy cave opened up. I stared inside and in the corner was a cobweb shining in a beam of light. I was petrified but wanted to see more. I felt a cat brush against my legs and a broomstick swept around a pitch-black cauldron. I saw someone in a long cloak with a wart on their face, holding up a potion.

Annabel

She zoomed across the moonlit sky on her tatty old broomstick. In her right hand she carried a magic, evil wand and on her head she wore a black, pointy hat. Green goo dripped off her crooked warty nose in the cold night air. She landed her broomstick in the dark, damp cave. She pulled out of her smelly, torn bag six frogs’ eyes and eight troll ears, to make a potion in the copper cauldron.

Pieface plonked his velvet red nose in the middle of his pale white face. He gazed at himself in the mirror. Something was not quite right. He had forgotten to put on his pants. He hopped into his baggy, rainbow-striped trousers. They were far too big. Pieface adjusted his braces to fit him properly. “Perfect,” he thought. He reached for his favourite orange-and-purple, spotty hat – the one with the flower on it. He clonked his enormous shoes over the side of his unicycle and he was off. Pieface rode through the apple-coloured curtains on his one-wheeled contraption.

Charlotte

Frank, the little boy, gave a note to Charlie, the old tired man who chopped wood for a living. The note contained a very important message that would make Charlie rich.

Liam

Dodger had found some wallets full of money. “Give it,” said Fagin in a low voice. He put out his old and wrinkly hand. Dodger gave them before Fagin got angry.

Bridie

The old man’s clothes were scruffy and torn. He was sitting on a brown chair, tired and weak. Standing next to the old man was a young boy with torn trousers and a magician’s black hat with a white bow tie. He also was wearing a jacket and a vest. He was giving the old man money that he had stolen from a person’s pocket.

Mikayla

Old Fagin has a long grey beard that matches his hair, which is bald through the middle. He has a long black overcoat that covers almost his whole body. Fagin also wears torn, holey gloves. Wishing that Oliver Twist had got something more valuable, he still took it.
Young Oliver Twist has a shiny black top-hat with slightly lighter hair…. Wearing his waistcoat, he also has a bow tie. Thinking that my master would be impressed when I showed him the stolen goods that were in my possession…

Joshua stepped into his grandad’s house. He was glad to escape the rain. Inside, sat his grandad in his old rusty rocking-chair. This old man’s name was George. He had a white scruffy beard like a wizard’s. He also wore dark clothes that he had worn into holes. His grandson was excited to see him because it was his grandad’s birthday. Joshua wore an odd combination of clothes. He held out the present, which was a book that he had saved up his pocket money for. His grandad felt pleased when he looked inside his handmade card.

Annabel

Dodger looked suspiciously at Fagin, with the old man’s wallet clasped in his still hands. Dodger wondered what was inside the wallet. He raised his eyebrows, staring into the pickpocket-leader’s eyes and had a strange feeling that he knew what this could come in handy for. Fagin’s hand quivered. Dodger flipped the wallet open and a look of shock appeared on his face.

Charlotte

The woman ran to her workshop. She slammed the door shut. “At last,” she thought, “the key is mine, mine – all mine!” She carefully opened the box where she had stored the key. This key was a lovely masterpiece. She grabbed a little keyhole. The key wandered through it. The woman (Lilly) yelled, “I can finally be a prettier woman.” Her eyes began to prickle.
She felt the stinging in her eyes; soon they would become big, blue sparkling eyes – the most beautiful in the land.

Lights, camera, action!

Our new science topic in Year 4 is electricity. We have investigated ways of making a bulb light up and worked out what we actually needed and what we could do without.

Christophe's Story

Korora Class have been reading Christophe's Story, which is about a refugee settling into a new school, the problems he faced and the friendships that followed. We acted out different resolutions to dealing with bullying.

Hola!

Years 4, 5 and 6 had a special visitor in their Spanish lesson - Aitor Burgos, who was very impressed with their conversation skills! We also learned that Catalan is a very different language to Spanish.
