Precious Metal

Joseph Sullivan was a Gold Medallist at the 2014 London Olympics. Together with Nathan Cohen, he came from the back of the race to win the Men's Double Sculls in an amazing show of skill, strength and determination.

Our Tuatara Class not only got to meet Joseph and hear his story but also had the honour of holding the Gold Medal as well.

We learned the importance of believing in yourself even when others doubt you. With some excellent questionning from the Primary students, we also discovered that Joseph had never owned his own boat; that his rowing shoes were fixed in his Olympic boat, which explained why he received his medal in bare feet; and that he was so exhausted at the end of his race that he couldn't stand up!
